Christian v. Christ Follower Mac Parody

A recent post on The Emergent Village Weblog reminded me of a little parody from www.communitychristian.org that contrasts two kinds of Christianity. Quite apropos with discussions as to what an “emergent Christian” is at least in terms of stereotypes, but you be the judge!

Unless the sense of it is that of emerging from something else like a parent tradition or idea. But I agree that in your sense it's like you are either married, or you are not!

ok "emergent Christian" - interesting term and I admit that I haven't looked into exactly what is meant by the term but it made me think of emergent readers - children who are just beginning the journey of knowing how to read, they don't yet posse all the skills and strategies, and even physical/emotional development necessary for real reading yet but we begin teaching then how to read and scaffold and support their learning until they are full-fledged readers. Applying the term in it's same meaning to Christianity seems inappropriate. I don't believe that one can be "not quite a Christian". I don't believe that there is a clear set of skills needed to be a Christian that you must posse before you are a full fledged Christian. Doesn't the Bible say that with Baptism you are fully one of God's chosen? Doesn't that sprinkling or water take care of it and we are all in the same boat learning what it means to live in this crazy world? Just my 2 cents worth.

This is good. I can picture a full congregation laughing at certain parts, groaning at others, and looking at the person sitting next to them with a knowing smile.

And then, while leaving the sanctuary, stopping by the "action table" and signing the petition for the Federal Marriage Amendment (-or insert other current political thing-).

Anyway, I'm far too cynical, and this is probably a really good thing to present to Christian-world.
