I always have about ten songs running through my brain at any given time and this was in the mix when the news of Heath Ledger's untimely death came over the NPR news feed that I read. For the most part it is a love song. But it has to do with how one feels when someone close to you is down in the dumps. Depression and all of those things in life that drag us down personally truly do affect those around us. It's exhausting spending time with the bereaved and those who have lost hope in something for whatever reason. It's not even a matter of discussing the events that bring someone down, but even being in the presence of someone who is hurting is like standing next to a black hole of sorts since the situation does sap you of your own energy whether you intend it to or not. So things like death, pain, and suffering are vents we try to avoid and bury.
The West does not embrace death, it rejects it and tries to literally bury it. We like to be happy and feel complete in our own skin. But even as band-aids and makeup cover our blemishes, they do not help us accept them and allow them to heal the right way. The deeper the cut, the more time and more effort to get things in the condition where healing will be the most effective. Often this means even deeper pain for even a moment to excise the problem, clean it out, and really get the margins of what causes the pain.
Being happy is a good thing. But being happy as a cover for pain that digs deep in the soul will only cause deeper infection that no pill, cosmetic, or smile can heal. So for anyone who is feeling down, depressed or lost, this is a little tune to let you know how those closest to you are feeling as well. Pain affects everyone and the best course of action is to work with those around you feeling it as well in order to clean it out and start the healing process before it gets so bad that drastic measures will ensue.

Anchor the night, open the sky
Hide in the hours before sunrise
Pray for me not, I won't lose sight
Of where I belong and where you lie
[Chorus]
Heaven's dead when you get sad
I see your wishes fly
Out of time
For the best time you've had
Shipwreck the sun, I'm on your side
An army of one, onward we'll ride
And whisper your songs, birds to the air
We'll bury all of our burdens there
[Chorus]
Heaven's dead when you get sad
I see your wishes fly
Out of time
For the best time you've had
Heaven's dead when you get sad
I see your wishes fly
Out of time
For the best time you've had
Best time you had
For the best time you had
Heaven's dead when you get sad
[Chorus]
Heaven's dead when you get sad
I see your wishes fly
Out of time
For the best time you've had
Heaven's dead when you get sad
I see your wishes fly
Out of time
I'll take it all, arrows or guns
Hundreds or more to save you from one
Save you from one
And Where I'll be
Heaven's dead when you get sad
