The Nature of Blogging

So 67% say that my posts are in general too long.  So what is blogging?  It's a set of people's commentaries on longer arguments.  That is why people read them – especially many academics.  If journals and books are still the main course of the meal, blogs are the restaurant reviews, side-dishes, before and after dinner drinks, appetizers, and desserts.  So I have to make more side dishes.  If I have enough for a main course, make hors d'oeuvres out of them.  Hell, five hors d'oeuvres can still fill you up.  Not just all at once!  But I'll still crank a long argument once in a while – where appropriate; like the recent "bloggersation" with Michael Halcomb, James McGrath, and Ken Brown!

Admirably brief! I don't know why it is that we lose patience with blog posts so much faster than other media, but it's clearly a common reaction. Even a post the length of a short magazine article can feel very long on a blog… no idea why.
