Ok I’ll do it… It’s at least somewhat autobiographical and interesting.
The rules are pretty basic
- in about 25 words each, answer the following five questions;
- tag five presbyterian bloggers and send them a note to let them know they were tagged;
- be sure to link or send a trackback to this post;
What is your earliest memory of being distinctly Presbyterian?
I started going to National Presbyterian Church in Washington. D.C. shortly after my mother re-married. I became a member of the church during my junior year of high school.
On what issue/question should the PC(USA) spend LESS energy and time?
The endless focus on traditional chastity and more of a focus on what scripture has to say about properly constituted relationships. Do this without any consideration of gender first in order to frame questions about gender properly.
On what issue/question should the PC(USA) spend MORE energy and time?
G-3.0400: “The Church is called to undertake this mission even at the risk of losing its life, trusting in God alone as the author and giver of life, sharing the gospel, and doing those deeds in the world that point beyond themselves to the new reality in Christ.”
If you could have the PC(USA) focus on one passage of scripture for a entire year, what would it be?
30313233Mark 12:29-33 - “Jesus answered, ‘The first is, “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.” The second is this, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” There is no other commandment greater than these.’ Then the scribe said to him, ‘You are right, Teacher; you have truly said that “he is one, and besides him there is no other”; and “to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength”, and “to love one’s neighbour as oneself”,—this is much more important than all whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices.’”
If the PC(USA) were an animal what would it be and why?
Giant Panda - Their young are fragile, they do not easily adapt to environmental changes, and they need a lot of help from good people for them to persist in the wild.
Extra Credit: Jesus shows up at General Assembly this year, what does he say to the Presbyterian Church (USA)?
‘Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. 2For with the judgement you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. 3Why do you see the speck in your neighbour’s* eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? 4Or how can you say to your neighbour,* “Let me take the speck out of your eye”, while the log is in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbour’s* eye.
