insanity and despair

we have an insane society.

fundamentalists have the market cornered on sin and conversion through therapy. "sin is simply a disease and when you get rid of it you will feel better. just ask jesus for forgiveness."

liberals have the market cornered on social belonging and social activism but again, in order for therapeutic functionalism. "jesus helped people. if we help people like he did, we will feel better about our place in the world."

yet neither pole addresses sin as a social problem beyond individual freedom and joissance and neither is an effective therapy. both perspectives allow tolerance and that tolerance sadly allows insanity to exist unchecked and at the whim of a secular conscience which is quite anemic (as argued well enough by austin dacey).

so its ironic that a suicide happens outside of the most therapeutic temple of secular conscience in the christian sphere of society.

its not sad that it happened as much as it is sad that it seems all too "normal."
