Anna M Blanch @ Goannatree is probably getting a lot of trackbacks with her series of blog grades in which Notes From Off Center was graded. Her response is kind of what I thought many would think about this blog when I started it. I have gone under the assumption that I am generally an equal opportunity offender. That might very well be true! As she says, "I would be more likely to substitute "polemicist" for pragmatist as Tatusko seems to enjoy picking a fight," and this is great too,"I rarely agree with Tatusko but he gives me something to think about!"
As for the former, since people rarely fight me on anything, if thats what I am trying to do, I am not succeeding.
As for the latter, that is about the best complement I could ever hear. I like getting people to think before they would ever think about agreeing with me for the sake of being … agreeable or even nice!
Finally, and this is perfect for people who know me:
"Theological Leanings – ?"
Thanks!

You are welcome. You do give me something to think about and i appreciate the polemic. I feel like i should say that i don't really want to pick a fight back without taking real time to craft a response so i usually just read and digest. Maybe i should engage more?
Also, i have tried not to guess "theological leanings" – i try to let people speak for themselves…i figured that they would correct me if they felt it necessary!
Ps:..actually the series has been going for about a month and the trackbacks only started in the last two days, but thanks for the vote of confidence (?)!
I think that many people take things too personally and think that others will do the same. I really do not take anything anyone has to say about my writing as a personal thing. My belief is that understanding truth and getting things right is more important that how we feel about truth and getting things right. So even if I sound polemical, that's really never my intent. My position is always, what is the issue, and how can we come to a more accurate and 'real' understanding of it – which is to say, a more pragmatic understanding of it. But I think that some folks are out for feeling better about their position in the world, including blogland, and when what they feel is a good idea is criticized, they associate the idea with the person and take it as self-criticism. I would like to move beyond that to focus on more important stuff.
I agree with the theological leanings bit as well. I would never want to pidgeon hole anyone on purpose unless I was indeed trying to pick a fight

By polemic I mean opinionated. I think we just mean different things by the term.
In any case I appreciate reading your blog though some have been less than thrilled by my positive review!
I have finished all the reviews (took 14 very long posts) and a summary post – http://goannatree.blogspot.com/2009/03/bigger-t... that has some final comments.
