This is the sort of despicable swill that radical anti-abortionism renders. If this is so-called "pro-life" you can count me out. It also answers my earlier question regarding the expected outcome of the anti-abortion position (which has masqueraded as pro-life for decades). The outcome is criminalization for those who practice abortion and by default the accomplice mothers who choose to have it.
But for a demagogue populist like Terry, this sort of myopic criminalization masquerading as support for human flourishing would happen within the confines of free-market neo-conservatism. This is the cozy place in the wild west of salvation where guns and Jesus both ride the same white horse to God anointed prosperity which is an outflow of blind obedience to an assumed set of immutable dogmatic propositions.
Following is the statement of Randall Terry, Founder, Operation Rescue.
"Dr. Tiller was a mass murderer.
"I grieve for him that he did not have an opportunity to properly prepare his soul to face his Maker. Unless some miracle happened, he left this life with his hands drenched with the innocent blood of tens of thousands of babies that he murdered. Surely there will be a dreadful accounting for what he has done.
"I believe George Tiller was one of the most evil men on the planet; every bit as vile as the Nazi war criminals who were hunted down, tried, and sentenced after they participated in the 'legal' murder of the Jews that fell into their hands. But even Mr. Tiller – like other murderers – deserved a trial of his peers, and a legal execution, not vigilantly justice.
And Jesus wept… for more than just George Tiller, his family, and his wounded church family.

Well said. I accidentally stumbled onto a "Classical Christian" blog post this morning (via a link to a different topic there), and although the poster said it was not right to kill the doctor, the commenters disagreed, vehemently and frighteningly. I don't know how to have a conversation with people motivated by such extreme judgment and irrational hatred. But without a dialogue, won't we just get more of the same? I find my heart is heavy.
ugh. where is the what would jesus do language now? is it a convenient phrase for people to feel good but when it calls for people to make a radical change in their way of doing things it is discarded? where are our prophets?
