FLDS: Um…okay?

I am not sure what to say about this one.  Seems like a good enterprising idea for people clearly confused without their fearless leader.  But it’s still as weird as this whole situation really is.

http://fldsdress.com/order/images/teen_princess_dress.jpgFLDS women for the first time are offering their handmade, distinctive style of children’s clothes to the public through the Web site fldsdress.com.

[...]

The initial Web site featured only photographs of clothes because the children were still in state custody. Now those are being replaced with photographs of smiling, beatific FLDS children modeling the fashions.

The sect is offering dresses, overalls, shirts, pants, nightgowns, sleepers, onesies for babies and, yes, ankle-to-wrist underwear. There are denim jeans for boys and “teen princess” dresses in plain, jacket and vest styles in pastel shades of pink, peach, yellow, green, aqua, blue, lavender and lilac. The dresses sell for $35.65. Women’s apparel could be added if demand arises.

Yes, but will it be “fashion forward”?

This is great.  My sister emailed me the link.  I guess this was filmed before his proposed end of the world.

It’s a short clip.   Be sure watch the fantastic expression of concern on the face of the random “posse” guy on the right just before it zooms in on Hawkins.  When asked what scientists are looking into this Hawkins’ reply is awesome:

“I can’t give you their names but they’re checking it right now”.

Special thanks to my wonderful sister Lisa for finding this gem :-)

Are You Ready for Tomorrow?

Tomorrow is June 12 folks!  Are you ready for nuclear wars and the nuclear baby?  I’m not.  But Buffalo Bill Hawkins of the House of Yahweh says to be ready!

What is coming in the next few months, between now and June 12, 2007, will involve a third part of man being killed over a fourth part of the earth in and around the great River Euphrates. Then in the four months that follow every nation on earth will become involved.

Of course he will spin it on Friday saying that the Lord held back the war or something.  He will write that from his leather club chair in his mansion I am sure.

Read about a few other failed predictions here.

I will never understand the kind of dogmatism that places a religious law or belief in a more important position than the very life of your child. The Jehovah’s Witnesses are a sect with rather crude dogmatic assertions.

In a brief application yesterday, Brian Murray, counsel for the HSE, told Ms Justice Mary Laffoy that the mother, a patient of Cork University Hospital, was 32-weeks pregnant and her expected babies are severely anaemic.

When advised about the need for a blood transfusion, the mother and her partner had made it clear they objected to the procedure.

Ms Justice Laffoy asked whether the objection was on religious grounds and Mr Murray replied that it was.

It is believed the parents, who cannot be named by court order, are non-nationals and are members of the Jehovah’s Witness Congregation.

And here is where it gets inconsistent and absurd. Not only are they adhering to an unquestioning religious dogma, it is a fundamentally implausible one. How is refusing medical care that has a good chance of saving your babies all that different from abortion? It is no different from watching your son or daughter choke to death from asthma as you withhold an aspirator from them that would save their life. Yet they cling to this absurd belief. Here is the Jehovah’s Witness position on abortion and other activities that are harmful:

Jehovah’s Witnesses do not practice abortion. They shun activities that risk human life, such as driving a car while under the influence of alcohol. They teach high standards of cleanliness, which prevents the spread of infections, diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, and other diseases.

But if your babies need a transfusion to save their life, it is OK to refuse that and go with a substitute like, say, coke and tomatoes!

The good news is that the court in Ireland saw just a tad differently than the JW’s:

The HSE has said the “potentially critical” nature of the situation meant it had to get the court order now and could not wait until after the babies were born to seek it as that would take time and could risk the babies lives or health.

A consultant said transfusion “is almost certainly going to be medically necessary to save the lives of Babies C & D”.

The refusal of the mother to take Anti-D blood products herself or to allow blood be administered to the babies in her womb has placed the babies at risk of anaemia, which can lead to death, and has also risked them suffering jaundice, which can lead to deafness, cerebral palsy and lifelong severe disability, doctors told the court.

Once again we see that the government is needed to regulate the behaviors of stupid people. I could care less if their religion demanded that they put their babies in harm’s way. The fact is that these “parents” are guilty of being an accessories to attempted murder. Yet it is their religion that will no doubt keep them out of jail. That, and the outdated predominance of the genetic relationship as the immutable connection that defines parenthood. Sheer idiocy.

Jedi Church Spews Sectarian Dissent

Jedi Church? Seriously people. I am dubbing a new category called “Stupid Religion” because, well, damn. Darth Vader attacked two young Jedi Knights. I never knew that Darth Vader was a drunk too.

From the BBC:

Mrs Lloyd said: “He was wearing a black bin bag and a cape and had a metal crutch in his hand.”

Mrs Lloyd said he was shouting “Darth Vader”.

She added that Hughes hit Barney Jones over the head with the crutch, leaving him with a headache.

Holyhead Magistrates Court
The court heard Hughes could not remember the incident

He then laughed and hit Michael Jones in the thigh, causing bruising.

Both men were left upset by the incident and they believed it was pre-planned.

She added that the pair believe “very strongly in the church and their religion”.

The attack seems like something that any totally wasted person would do to anyone that looks a little funny. The last line sounds so oddly dogmatic it is actually more disturbing.

Why? The Jedi Church is real folks.

The Jedi church recognizes that all people have an innate knowledge of what is right and wrong, and the Jedi Church celebrates this like no other religion. The basic concepts and ideals of the Jedi religion were introduced by the fictional Star Wars movies. However, these concepts were quickly and readily recognized by many people throughout the world as being a religion that they could more readily ascribe to than traditional religions.

Right. Because Lucas borrowed from said religious myth with the help of Joseph Campbell! Silly people. Take up gardening or a new musical instrument. Maybe skeet shooting or basketball. Even knitting or cross-stitch, and get out of the basement of your parents just long enough to see the sunshine of day. And stop drinking Mountain Dew and Red Bull all day long. None of it’s very good for you.

BTW: The above pic of whom was a pooper and asked me to take down is of a “real” Jedi Knight, not a fake one from the movies.
